Sister Hazel Joined Our Wigs for Comfort and Confidence Day!

In late spring of this year, we proudly launched our Wigs for Comfort and Confidence program, dedicated to providing high-quality wigs to children undergoing cancer treatment. Since its inception, we have been honored to outfit 11 brave children with beautiful, custom-made wigs that not only restore a sense of normalcy but also boost their confidence during such a challenging time. Each of these children has a unique story, and you can read about their journeys on our blog here.

Just last week, many of the For Nina volunteer team made a special visit to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital to help four lovely young ladies experience the transformation of a lifetime. Each girl, facing her own unique challenges and journey to health, was absolutely thrilled to receive her new wig. Our talented wig maker, Katia, was especially excited to try out new styles, ensuring that each wig reflected the big personalities and individual spirits of these incredible girls. The joy and surprise on the faces of their parents and siblings were unforgettable moments for all of us.

A particularly heartwarming story from the day involved Ken Block, the lead singer of Sister Hazel, and a longtime advocate for children with cancer. Ken’s connection to childhood cancer is deeply personal—when he was just 16 years old, his brother Jeffrey passed away from T-cell Lymphoma, a loss that profoundly impacted him. In honor of his brother, Ken founded the nonprofit Lyrics for Life, which supports both cancer research and efforts to enrich the lives of young patients and their families.

Sister Hazel hosts an annual concert event benefiting Lyrics for Life each spring. After Nina passed in May 2018, Nina's doctor, Bill Slayton, invited her mother, Erica—our foundation's president—as his guest to the 2019 Lyrics for Life event. Erica has attended this special event every year since, finding solace and strength in the community that Ken and his team have built.

One of the most memorable moments during our recent visit to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital was when Ken Block and Drew Copeland, members of Sister Hazel, spent two hours at Seacrest Studios within the hospital. Their presence coincided with our wig day, making it a truly special occasion. The fact that these musicians, known for their generosity and commitment to the cause, were there while we were helping four patients find their perfect wigs was nothing short of incredible. It was a day filled with hope, joy, and the kind of magic that only comes from bringing people together for a common cause.

How You Can Support Our Wigs for Comfort and Confidence Program

The joy and confidence that these wigs bring to children battling cancer are immeasurable. But we can't do it alone. Your support is crucial in helping us continue to provide these life-changing wigs to more children in need. Whether it's through a donation, volunteering your time, or simply spreading the word about our program, every bit of support makes a difference.

Together, we can ensure that no child faces this journey without the comfort and confidence they deserve. Thank you for being a part of our mission to bring smiles, strength, and hope to these incredible young fighters.
